Three knots
11/08/2025

I remember how one of my spiritual teachers in India told me about his wedding with his wife, with whom he has shared a loving relationship for decades. During the ceremony they tied ribbons around their wrists and knotted them together. Each knot symbolized a promise they made to each other. The teacher smiled and said, "Most people believe the real journey begins when you tie the knot. In truth, it begins when you learn to untie it."
Most of our lives we dream about tying the knot to get married and unite with someone in the outer world. Yet few realize that the only true marriage leading to spiritual maturity is the one born from the commitment to untie the knots within ourselves.
In India these knots are called granthi. They bind our consciousness to lower forces of fear, attachment, and ego.
Brahma granthi holds us captive in the body and craving material security.Vishnu granthi entangles us in a web of emotions, expectations, and conditional love.Rudra granthi binds us to pride, control, and the illusion of separation from the Divine.
To untie them we do not pull harder but soften.Through self-inquiry, meditation, selfless service, and quiet courage to let go of what we have been taught to be the knots slowly loosen.
When they disappear life energy flows freely and what we sought outside reveals itself within us.
Only then do we meet the Beloved not as another person but as the boundless presence at the core of our being. When we love from there we give ourselves fully. We do not give ourselves away lightly or for nothing. We give ourselves completely.
Many mistakenly think tantra is promiscuity. Tantra is not a pursuit of physical pleasure but a refined path of transformation where every breath, touch, and gaze becomes a doorway into presence and union with the Divine. I have been teaching tantra for many years and know that true tantra is a path of deepening love, freedom, and truth first within oneself then in relationship with another.
If you feel it is time to begin untying the knots within yourself or your relationship I invite you to online relational therapy for individuals and couples at www.relationalfengshui.com.
